Is showering in cold water or hot water better? There are plenty of cons and pros for each side of the argument. For example, sometimes cold water can be healthier for you, but hot showers can be relaxing.
HOT SHOWERS
1. It can smooth those stiff and tense areas
The hot water can soothe the tense muscles in your stressed body. It can work as a small massage at home. If you have a more powerful showerhead, it can help even better!
2. Can ease anxiety
Are you going through stress, or are you worried about a huge test you have tomorrow? Well it sure doesn't hurt to take a nice soothing shower in warm water. Studies have shown that it can boost you oxytocin levels up, which means it will create more social interactions. Warm showers can help you get over anxiety and prevent over excessive worrying and can make you feel more relaxed.
3. It can get rid of that annoying cough you've had for the last few weeks
According to livestrong.com, it can relieve coughs. The steam can loosen and get rid of mucus that is caught at the throat. It is a cheaper substitute for a humidifier which is usually recommended by doctors when concerned about stuffy noses and/or a sore throat. The steam is the main reason why, and you can't get steam from a cold shower... can you?
I find hot showers very relaxing and able to calm you down. When I get pissed at my parents or sister, I take a hot shower where I can take a deep breath and let the steam get through me. Afterwards, I feel much better and able to talk to them instead of screaming.
COLD SHOWERS
1. Can keep skin and hair healthier
Unlike hot showers, cold showers don't burn or damage you hair and skin. Overuse of hot showers can also lead to an acne breakout. Cold water can make your hair shinier and your skin healthier. With hot showers, some of our natural oils will be lost, and the solution is cold water, and your hair and skin will both feel better and look so much healthier with their natural oils.
2. Improves blood circulation
Blood circulation is absolutely vital for a human to live. Luckily, cold showers help your organs work and can help the blood circulate through your body. It can speed up the process of healing when injured from a sport quicker. It can make you look healthier and younger, because of the organ's love of cold water.
3. Can wake you up and improve alertness
Cold showers will be like splashing some cold water onto your face on mornings where you just can't see to wake up. It can improve your alertness. It can have you pumped and ready for the day even without a cup of coffee. You may think, what about when going to sleep? Good question. It can actually help you get to bed too. It may not be pleasant and relieving at first, but it can make you sleep without any disturbances.
It isn't easy at first to take a cold shower, but as you gradually get into it, it gets more beneficial. I've been taking cold showers at least once or twice a week and it really wakes me up and pumps me up for a special morning and a good day.
